Starting a Video Call
Starting a Call
There are two ways to start a video call in Mandraki.
From a room:
- Open the room where you want to hold the call.
- Click the Call button in the room header.
- The call will begin and other room members will be notified.
From a direct message:
- Open a conversation with the person you want to call.
- Click the Call button in the conversation header.
- The recipient will receive a call notification.
Joining an Active Call
When a call is active in a room you belong to, you will see a green indicator on the room in your sidebar. Click the room and then click Join Call to enter.
Call Controls
The call control bar appears at the bottom of the screen during a call.
- Microphone — toggle your microphone on or off.
- Camera — toggle your camera on or off.
- Screen share — share your entire screen or a specific application window. On mobile, this option is available in the More menu.
- Record — start or stop recording the call (if your organisation permits recording). On mobile, this is in the More menu.
- View mode — switch between gallery view (all participants equally sized), speaker view (active speaker enlarged), spotlight, and focus modes. On mobile, this is in the More menu.
- Chat — open the in-call chat panel to send text messages to participants.
- Participants — view the list of current participants and their media status.
- Leave — leave the call. The call continues for other participants unless you are the last one.
Screen Sharing
- Click the Screen share button (or find it in the More menu on mobile).
- Your browser will prompt you to select what to share: your entire screen, a specific window, or a browser tab.
- Select your choice and click Share.
- To stop sharing, click the Stop sharing button that appears in the control bar.
Recording a Call
- Click Record (or find it in the More menu on mobile).
- All participants will be notified that recording has started.
- Click Stop recording when finished.
- The recording will be processed, encrypted, and made available in the Recordings section (accessible from the sidebar on desktop). Recordings remain stored exclusively within EU infrastructure.
Note: When end-to-end encryption ships, recording will not be available on E2EE-enabled calls because the server cannot access the media content. E2EE is on the roadmap and not active today.
Tips for a Good Call Experience
- Use a headset or earphones to reduce echo.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Mandraki will automatically adjust video quality based on available bandwidth.
- Close unnecessary browser tabs to free up system resources.
- If you experience connectivity issues behind a corporate firewall, contact your IT administrator to ensure Mandraki’s TURN server ports are accessible.
