Business Continuity Without US Dependencies

The Risk You May Not Have Quantified
Most European organisations have not conducted a thorough assessment of what would happen if their primary collaboration platform became unavailable due to geopolitical events. The assumption has been that major US cloud services are effectively permanent utilities — always available, always reliable, always accessible.
That assumption deserves scrutiny.
Trade sanctions, export controls, and political disputes have already demonstrated that access to US-controlled technology can be restricted with limited notice. While wholesale disruption to EU customers may seem unlikely today, the risk is non-zero, and for organisations with continuity obligations — financial institutions, hospitals, government agencies, critical infrastructure operators — non-zero risks require mitigation plans.
Dependency Mapping
Consider the typical European enterprise’s collaboration stack. Email is hosted on a US platform. Video conferencing runs through US-operated servers. Instant messaging and file sharing depend on US cloud storage. Identity management routes through a US identity provider. Even “European” deployments of these services typically depend on US-controlled software, licensing servers, and update infrastructure.
A disruption at any layer — whether caused by sanctions, trade policy, licensing changes, or infrastructure failure — cascades through the entire communication chain. When your teams cannot message, call, or share files, work stops.
How Mandraki Eliminates These Dependencies
Mandraki is designed to operate with zero dependencies on US-controlled infrastructure, services, or corporate entities.
European-hosted infrastructure. All servers run on a European-owned hyperscaler with data centres exclusively within the EU. There is no fallback to US infrastructure, no CDN routing through American edge nodes, and no dependency on US-based DNS or certificate authorities for core operations.
European-developed software. Mandraki is developed by a European team, incorporated under European law. The software is not licensed from a US company. There are no US export control restrictions on its use, and no US entity has the legal authority to revoke access.
Self-contained media routing. Video and audio calls are routed through Mandraki’s own SFU servers and TURN relays, all located within the EU. There is no dependency on third-party US-operated WebRTC infrastructure.
Independent identity management. While Mandraki integrates with external identity providers (including US-based ones like Azure AD and Okta), it also provides its own authentication system. If an external IdP becomes unavailable, organisations can fall back to Mandraki’s native authentication without losing access to their communications.
Open standards and data portability. Mandraki uses open protocols (WebRTC, MLS, SFrame) and provides data export capabilities. If an organisation ever needs to migrate away from Mandraki, their data is not locked in a proprietary format.
Business Continuity Planning
For organisations subject to regulatory continuity requirements — such as those under DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) for financial services — Mandraki provides several features that support formal business continuity planning.
Redundancy. The platform is deployed across multiple availability zones within the EU, with automatic failover for database, application, and media services.
Disaster recovery. Encrypted backups are maintained with configurable retention periods. Recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) are documented and testable.
Independence from single vendors. Because Mandraki does not depend on any single US technology provider, there is no single point of geopolitical failure. The platform’s supply chain is European from infrastructure to application.
Audit trail. All administrative actions, access events, and configuration changes are logged, supporting the governance requirements of continuity frameworks.
A Practical Step
Eliminating US dependencies from your collaboration stack does not require a wholesale transformation of your IT landscape. It starts with a single, practical step: adopting a communications platform that can operate independently of US-controlled infrastructure.
Mandraki provides enterprise-grade video conferencing, messaging, and file sharing with the performance and features your teams expect — and the jurisdictional independence your continuity plans require. It is not about politics. It is about prudent risk management.
